Keep Your Dog Healthy This Spring

Spring is in the air! With the warm weather upon us, here are a few tips to keep in mind in order to keep your pets safe as we prep for holiday celebrations, home improvements and outdoor activities.

Bring water. Warmer weather means going on longer walks and spending more time outdoors. This means your dog will be more active so make sure you bring plenty of water to keep hydrated.

Keep bugs away. Now is the time to make sure your pet is protected against fleas and ticks. It’s also a good idea to have a year-round heartworm preventive medication. Ask your vet about a prevention plan for your pet.

Be cautious when gardening. Pesticides and fertilizers are toxic and should be kept in a safe place where your dog can’t access them. Also, many plants like tulips and hyacinths are poisonous to pets so make sure to keep them away from your garden.

Beware of harsh cleaning chemicals. Spring-cleaning is always on top of the to-do list this time of year.  While it is the perfect time to do a deep cleaning we certainly want to keep our pets safe by making sure harsh chemicals are out of paws’ reach. Many household cleaners can irritate a pet’s mouth or skin while others can cause vomiting or diarrhea.

Have fun! Don’t forget that having a furry companion means you can enjoy each other’s company by playing fetch, going for runs or visiting the park more often. Don’t forget to reward your dog by giving him dog treats or feeding him a holistic dog food that can help him be happy and healthy.

  1. I wish people would read what they post re Manny and friends…..”This winter us brutal and we can’t wait until spring”. Do you mean “is” brutal and Spring has a capital letter.

    • Just an FYI – season names (spring, summer, etc.) should only be capitalized when it is the first word of a sentence or when it is part of a proper name (i.e. Cleveland Spring Fling). 🙂

  2. Seriously sharon Hopkins get off the site. You are not on it for the reasons intended. Your comments were just ignorant and childish.
